A tradition among the Shore Conference Basketball teams is the Red Bank Catholic vs Christian Brothers Academy Founder’s Cup. The basketball season is filled with various tournaments but this grudge tournament brings two team giants on the court for a game that remembers the history both schools have in the sport.
This year the game was held at Red Bank Catholic and with the boy’s basketball team showing an impressive record for the season the home court may give the advantage. Last year CBA had taken victory but RBC was looking for a win. The game was to follow an RBC Alumni Basketball game that brought past players back on the court to relive those fond memories battling it out for a win.
The game started with fast-paced action as the first half of gameplay didn’t have one foul. The ball was erratic being passed from one side of the court to another. Each player was fully engaged in the game playing with a fierce amount of competition. The strong spirit could be attributed to the completely sold-out fan base that showed up to watch two legendary teams battle.
By the second half, RBC was ahead of the game by a small margin but CBA had pushed forward to close the gap. CBA had accomplished in overtaking the lead for a short period but after a quick timeout, RBC was back on top of their game. The Caseys took immediate control within the last five minutes creating a score that CBA wouldn’t be able to catch up to.
RBC won 67-54
The Caseys will now go on to face Manchester in the first round of the SCT on 2/18.
