Keansburg Softball Winning On The Field And In The Classroom

Winning their first game of the season against the top tier team of Point Pleasant Beach is just the icing on the cake when looking at the 2019 Keansburg Softball team.

The Lady Titans are coached by George Hoff in his 13th season as head coach and Ashley Zarcaro-Keelen whose combined coaching skills and dedication has molded the players into a high-powered athletic group. The two coaches are consistently seen mentoring the players from both the offensive and the defensive standpoint. They are leading this team towards victory not just in athletics but also in academics.

Being a standout on the playing field is great but being a standout in the classroom is fantastic. There are 15 players on the team and each one is dedicated to their studies with several of the players making it on to the third quarter honor roll list. Senior, Alyssa Castera just signed her letter of intent to play college softball at East Stroudsburg University and was given the 2019 Shore Conference Sportsmanship award. Additionally, Senior, Christina Flores was named 2019 NJSIAA Scholar-Athlete earlier this month. Speaking of seniors let’s take a moment a see who is leading the team this year.

The Lady Titans have been showing great energy on offense this season with a high number of runs that are met with strategic plays by the batters movements. The communication in the outfield is also something to talk about as players openly trust one another with back-up to adapt to the ever-changing situation.

For their first game of the season, the Lady Titans battled against long-time competitive team Point Pleasant Beach. The game ended with Keansburg victorious 15-14. With Trinity Hall in their sights, the Lady Titans flew past with a staggering 19 points to 6. Now the team is running with a four-game victory streak with big wins against Keyport, Mater Dei Prep, Ranney, and Henry Hudson Regional.

With a 6-4 record, they return home to face off against Henry Hudson Regional this Wednesday May 1 at 3:45 pm. Their last time out Keansburg won 14-1 over HHR.
