Though it feels a bit like a mid-November day Spring has Sprung and that means springs sports are gearing up for another action-packed season. Here at Middletown South Softball Feild, the Eagles are preparing to take on the season with an accelerating attitude.
Last season the Eagles found themselves with a 19-8 record with a younger team, but this year the team looks to soar higher with nine returners and six being seniors.
The team is running with a great body of players that are going to be putting pressure on the field with strong defensive plays. The fortified pitching section led by Senior Pitcher Sophie Wilson, Erin Bauer, and freshman newbie Hope Mullane is going to act as the core for the team. The team’s offense is also looking promising with strong, solid contact hits. The Eagles will be going into the early innings with the goal to hit hard and score fast. During a recent scrimmage against Donovan Catholic, the players were using their experience and leadership combined with confidence in themselves and each other to achieve their goals.
Now being placed in the A North Division the Eagles must face a new set of challengers. However, the team looks ready for a great season showcasing a lot of speed and power. Head Coach Lisa Smith had this to say about her 2019 team “Our girls are committed, they work very hard in the offseason with their travel teams and trainers and I feel very positive about this team and am looking forward to seeing how they perform this spring.”
Stay tuned for more positive news on the Middletown South Softball season and your other favorite spring sports teams.
