The Bayshore community has indulged in many sweets over the years from longtime bakeries such as Dixie Lee in Keansburg or Normandy in Hazlet. Now there is a new scrumptious bakery to enjoy located right in the heart of Keyport.
The Munchkinette is the newest addition to the Bayshore area, setting up shop on Front St. in Keyport where owner and lifelong resident of Union Beach, NJ, Katrina Ramos creates her unique but highly delectable treats. Katrina has lived her entire life in the area even attending Keyport High School. During her high school years Katrina worked for Normandy Bakery beginning her love for baking. She then went on to graduate from Johnson & Wales University specializing in Bakery & Pastry, Food Service Management. This passion lead her to craft special desserts, cupcakes & other treats. Katrina’s other passion is being a personal training where she spends dedicated time to strength, improvement, and mastering obstacle courses to one day make an appearance on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior.
Starting off in her home, Katrina served specialty cakes and cupcakes which after a short time gained immense popularity. Katrina soon after began a search for a brick and mortar location to expand her creative home-baked-goods. It comes as no surprise when she picked Keyport as her new location. “I love this area so much growing up here and sharing many memories. I have true connection with the community.” Expressed Katrina when asked about her options during the search. Thanks to help from her family and friends alongside the proud support of the other local businesses The Munchkinette found a home.
Only being open for a little under a month Katrina has prepared desserts that you won’t exactly find in an average Bakery. In fact, The Munchkinette is a bakery but also a snuggery! A British term, a “snuggery” is a place of comfort. A feeling of comfort is truly what you feel walking into this cozy bakery. The Munchkinette expresses a beach theme with comfortable seating for those to enjoy. The selection is what you will truly end up enjoying as there are a variety of goodies for everyone. Katrina’s personal favorite is a mouthwatering Crème Brulee Cupcake though her biggest seller is the French Toast Egg Claire topped with crispy Bacon. In addition, another unique dessert option is her special Crepes. These Crepes can be found on her website at www.themunchkinette.com where they will be updated with new recipes throughout the year.
As the holidays approach The Munchkinette will be featuring some exceptional treats such as a Strawberry Champagne Cupcake and Irish Cream Cupcake for St Patrick’s Day.
This is just the icing on the cake for this new snuggery as it’s truly a place you have to experience in person. Whether you are looking for your very own “Central Perk” or looking for a delicious snack The Munchkinette is the place for you.
