Hazlet Law Enforcement One Of The First Townships To Receive New Certification

On August 3rd the Hazlet Police Department was credentialed and Certified in the state of New Jersey under the Safe Policing for Safe Communities Executive Order issued back in June of 2020 by Gov. Murphy.  The Executive Order was created in part to direct law enforcement agencies to uphold standards and criteria on the use of force.  The credentialing will also benefit the department when applying for federal grant funding in the future.

This new credentialing was determined by a credentialing body that was appointed by the Attorney General. From 2010-2021 Hazlet was found to meet or exceed the best practices in law enforcement for a decade through the accreditation program of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police.

The new Chief of Police Ted Wittke who was appointed in September of 2020 said, “Through the hard work and effort of our officers, the Hazlet Township Police Department continues to be at the forefront of progressive policing practices and reflects the commitment of the New Jersey law enforcement profession to lead the country in fair, equitable, and effective policing”.

In addition, The Police Department will be featuring a ” Coffee with a Cop” event on Wednesday, August 18th in support of National Night Out Month. The event will be held at McDonald’s on HWY 35 3140 HWY 35 Hazlet NJ, 07730.  This event will be a great opportunity to spend some time with the great men and women on the force who help protect the community  No agenda or speeches just a great time!
